The Sri Lankan President, who left the country, went to Singapore to seek asylum

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who fled the country after the country's severe economic crisis spiraled out of control, has arrived in Singapore from the Maldives to seek asylum.

Rajapaksa reached Male, the capital of the Maldives, from Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, and reached Singapore early on Wednesday morning.
According to the Sri Lankan Army, the then President Rajapaksa was taken to the Maldives on the order and approval of the Ministry of Defense.The army has made it clear that the work was done on the orders of the existing higher authorities. All four of them were flown from Katunayake International Airport in Sri Lanka to Velana International Airport in Maldives. A state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka to prevent violence from further angry demonstrations following the news that Rajapaksa has left the country.
